This was the first swim of the year
for our group. I am still waiting for warmer water but the other folks, Sharon,
Mike, Marie and Marianne were fine with the 72-degree water as measured by my
Suunto Ambit 3.
The early morning route is about a
thousand meters from Boat Ramp One to a bush on a peninsula to the south which
is partially submerged when the water level is higher. The lake is about 80%
full as I write this.
Of course, we are still talking wet
suits this early in the season. In summer, the water temperature will be about
80 degrees. The dam outflow is from the bottom which drains the coldest water
from the lake.
We began this weekly routine 14
seasons ago when I was training for Hawaii Ironman and needed open water.
Naturally, a lake is not an ocean but closer to ocean conditions than a
swimming pool and a heck of a lot more fun than endless pool laps. Maryann is preparing for a triathlon and Marie is preparing for a 50K trail run in Fish Camp CA. Mike, Sharon and I are retired from competition.

about our swim but have different photos this year. I took the photos with the Sony A7R3 and Sony 100-400mm GM lens.
