Our Modest Out And Back Route

For previous stories about skiing out of Tamarack see here: https://midsierramusing.blogspot.com/2018/12/tamarack-ski-with-sharon-and-duke.html
We had a big dump of snow a couple of weeks ago and since there had been considerable thawing and freezing, Sharon and I figured we would be better off with snowshoes. We don’t do well with “icy”.
Tamarack snow park is the highest one of several snow parks along highway 168 and is about 7,600’ at the parking area. Just a reminder that it is about $5.00 for a snow park pass for the day in Shaver Lake and $25.00 for a year pass.
We took our Airedale with us and he wanted to go with Mather and Bill who were skiing the Raven Trail to the Shaver Overlook with some others. This is a Nordic Trail only. Bill finally brought Duke back to us on this leash that was trailing behind him. Bill is from Fresno also.
We just wanted to get our “sea legs” on our first snowshoe of the year. The trail was firmly packed by snowmobiles and we did a 2-mile round trip from my truck with a snack at the turnaround. There is some snow coming in tonight and we could get some fresh powder to ski on by next week. Let’s hope we get a good snowpack again this year.
