 Our Hike Route

We were lucky Yosemite permit holders this week and left Fresno at 4am for a hike off Glacier Point Road. We knew it would be 105 degrees in Fresno and that’s why the early start. It took us two hours to get to the small parking area near Sentinel Dome. We opted to take the trail to the left and head to Taft Point and away from Sentinel Dome. The trail was good and wide through the woods. We knew there would be no water along the trail so we each carried two quarts of water with us.

When you break out into the open pay attention to where the trail runs for the trip back. Head toward the high point and you will eventually see the small enclosed view area. Be careful with the “selfies”. A couple fell to their deaths last year.

That is also the spot Dean Potter and a friend took off from in their ill-fated wing suit flight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCSwAvK7LM0

Also pay attention to the fissures you pass along the way!

You can choose to return the way you came or continue on the Pohono Trail to Sentinel Dome. After you climb the dome, you take the trail back to the parking lot or continue to Glacier Point. We headed back toward the parking area which by this time was full of cars. If you are less ambitious just head to Sentinel Dome from the parking area and skip the loop hike.
